2023-2024 ELC Vision for Advanced Learning: Five Key Focus Areas

Personnel
People are the most important asset to the organization. Therefore, recruiting and retaining the best people requires highly competitive wages, opportunities for advancement, benefit packages including health insurance, retirement investment options with matching funds, ongoing training, annual bonuses, and free daily lunch. Ascension Christian offers all of this to the ELC staff. This retention and recruiting strategy has been a success for Ascension Christian and appears to put the ELC as the model of excellence when attracting and retaining the best employees.

Nutrition
The ELC Food Services Department recently contracted with a certified dietician experienced in early learning center nutrition programs. The focus included a committee of stakeholders who would support the development of a well-balanced dietary plan for little children. The end result had to include delivery of fresh, age appropriate foods with attention to proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. Given that children are taught to move from using their fingers to a fork or spoon, the foods must be user friendly to accommodate learning. The end result is the current menu items being served at the ELC. Parents can view the menus online daily.

Playground
One of the most enjoyable parts of every child’s day is the time spent outside playing. The ELC playground has been a focal point for many children for the past 40 years. We have recently upgraded the entire playground so our students can have a top of the line experience.

Curriculum
As an educational center, the ELC has used numerous curricula to address age appropriate learning strategies for children ages 1-3 years old. In a recent evaluation of the ever changing dynamic of teaching and learning, the ELC administration has purchased a new curriculum titled Frog Street. The staff and administration are fully engaged in teaching and learning with this new curriculum. Students are already showing significant progress in learning. The Ascension Christian ELC is committed to providing educational excellence with the use of this curriculum which includes the use of enhanced technology in every class.

Training and Advancement
The staff at the ELC has expressed appreciation for the ongoing training and development with the new curriculum, however, there is much more to learn. The ELC administration is committed to supporting the staff with advanced learning opportunities to further their career options at the ELC. The staff will have the opportunity to become certified as a staff member at the Ascension Christian ELC. The certification will provide advanced learning in early childhood education. The results are going to provide a pathway for advancement opportunities for the staff as the ELC continues to grow and serve the community.
